ANSWERS:

1. Mary rode a donkey to Bethlehem.

B) Who really knows?

What we know for sure is, the distance from Nazareth to Bethlehem is 70-80 miles. Common means of transportation in those times were walking, donkey, camel, horse, cart drawn by horse or donkey.

2. Mary arrive in Bethlehem the night she gave birth.

C) False

3. Joseph or Mary talked to any innkeepers.

B) Who really knows?

What we know for sure is there was no place for them in the inn. The Greek word used in Scripture is kataluma, and can mean guest chamber, lodging place or inn. It is used again in Mark with the meaning of a furnished, large, upper story room within a private house and is translated guest chamber.

4. Jesus born in a stable.

B) Who really knows?

What we know for sure is Mary wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger.

5. Jesus was laid in a manger

A) True

6. Jesus did not cry when he was born.

B) Who really knows?

It is a song lyric, but we do not know this for sure.

7. Angels sang to the shepherds outside of Bethlehem.

B) Who really knows?

What we do know is there were heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”

8. Angels were present and visible at the birth

B) Who really knows?

There is nothing saying that they were, and nothing saying that they weren’t.

9. Kings rode camels to Jesus’ birth.

B) Who really knows?

We don’t even know if Kings were every there. Scripture talks about

10. Wise men (“magi”) came to see Jesus’ at his birth.

C) False

We know they came after Jesus was presented at the temple, so they were not at his birth. We do not know how many, so the common number of three could also be incorrect. It is assumed because of the number of gifts.

11. Shepherds came to Jesus’ birth.

B) Who really knows?

We know they were there before he was eight days old.

12. Three costly gifts were presented by the wise men (“magi”) —gold, frankincense and myrrh

A) True

13. Jesus was born on December 25.

C) False

The Bible does not specify a date or month. However, Shepherds abiding in the fields would be highly unlikely at that time.
