This is written from a Mother’s Perspective – specifically from Mary’s. I did a lot of research into what it would have been like, but this is STRICTLY my imagination, there is no guarantee any of this really happened or really were her thoughts. I do use scripture through out. However, it’s mostly how I think I might have thought if I were her.
A Mother’s Thoughts – Day 750
Once again Joseph had a visit from an angel of the Lord in a dream. This time, the angle told Joseph to “Get up, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who were trying to take the child’s life are dead.” Just as before, we got up and dad as we were told. At that time, we hadn’t heard of Herod’s death, but as we traveled, it has been confirmed.
We were a little concerned when we heard that Archelaus, Herod’s son, was reigning in Judea. Rightly so as Joseph had us withdraw from the district of Galilee and we are now in the town called Nazareth. Such a long travel, over 100 miles! But we are finally settling in.
The last few years sure have changed my life. We have moved from city to city, I never thought I would be such a traveler. Oh the many things that have happened in our lives. I can only imagine the things to come. Again, I rest in my assurance that God is for us. He will care for His Son.
Honestly, I have to keep reminding myself Jesus is God’s son. The events of His conception seems so long ago. Joseph is here, right by our side, at times, it seems Jesus is his son and we are a normal little family.
At the same time, it’s like we are living in the past, present, and future, all at once. We have studied the scriptures so much, we know of the foretelling of the Messiah. We know what Isaiah and Jeremiah and the prophets have said. Some of it hasn’t made sense until now. So we can almost look to the past to tell us about our present.
And yet, the past can also tell us of Jesus’s future. Again, it can be hard to understand exactly what the prophets are saying, but when it comes to pass, we have no doubts. For example, Hosea said, “Out of Egypt I called My Son.” And the prophets said, “He shall be called a Nazarene.” And here we are, living in Nazareth.
I think we will be here for some time. I listen to the reading of God’s Word with a whole different ear now. Listening and waiting for what we can learn next from our past, about our present and our future. Listening and watching … its what we all should be doing for the Messiah has come!
