Not a Disciple – False Disciples (Doctrine of a Disciple)

This next one can be hard to swallow. It’s a bit shocking that Jesus said it. Keep this in mind … JESUS said it … not one of His disciples. This isn’t up for debate, isn’t a question of  interpretation by another human being, it is what it is.

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven …  Matthew 7

Stop the presses – read that again …

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven …  Matthew 7

Sure, Christians already know not everyone will enter the kingdom of heaven – isn’t that what many of the messages are about? Isn’t the “gospel message” preached all about helping people get into heaven? Isn’t that the focus of many Sunday mornings?

But here, we see Jesus saying that not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter. So how do we really know who will enter the kingdom?

but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

Those who do the will of the Father. It isn’t all about talking a talk, it’s about walking a walk.

22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’

This goes right along with the teaching on false prophets. There will be people here on earth who have prophesied, exercised, and performed miracles who will not be in heaven. We can not count on these as evidence for someone being the real deal.

23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

It’s about the heart – our actions come from our heart. It’s about the fruit as Jesus said in the passage prior, “… by their fruit you will recognize them.”
This would also imply, by YOUR fruit, you will know if you will be someone Jesus knows. Something to think about isn’t it?
